Joel Marosi, born in Zurich . Studied with Nancy Chumachenco in Zurich, Heinrich Schiff in Basel, Claus Kanngiesser in Cologne and Arto Noras at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, solo and chamber music degrees with distinction. Numerous awards in competitions both nationally and internationally. Lausanne 1991, Berlin Mendelssohn Competition 1992, Osaka 1996, Yo Yo Ma, Harvey Shapiro, David Geringas, Ralph Kirschbaum. As a soloist Joel Marosi has appeared with many orchestras, including the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Prague Chamber Orchestra, Göttinger Sinfonieorchester, Hannoversche Orchestervereinigung with conductors such as Ton Koopman, Heinrich Schiff, Christoph Mueller, Christian Zacharias and Hannu Lintu. Joel Marosi served as director of the Sinfonieorchester Basel from 2000-2003. Since 1999 many concerts as a leader with the Salzburg Chamber Orchestra and the Camerata di Berne. In addition to his orchestral and soloist career, Joel Marosi is a dedicated chamber musician. Numerous concerts with, among others, members of the Sine Nomine, Skampa and Alban Berg Quartets, Christian Zacharias, Ursula Holliger, Dimitri Ashkenazy, Ilya Gringolts , Isabelle van Keulen and the Labeque Sisters.
Joel Marosi is a founding member of the Zurich Piano Trio. The trio has earned a place among the leading young ensembles in the world of chamber music. After winning numerous competitions, including the Charles Hennen in the Netherlands, the Mendelssohn Competition in Berlin, the Concert Society’s International Piano Trio Competition in Munich, the Zurich Piano Trio performed its first concert at the invitation of Isaak Stern at Carnegie Hall. Joel Marosi has held a first cello position with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne since 2005. In 2009 and 2010 he was invited by conductor Charles Dutoit to participate in the international section of the Lindenbaum Music Festival in Seoul, Korea. Joel Marosi is also a founding member of 4Cellist , which regularly tours Asia. In 2010 he also gave the first performance of Daniel Schnyder’s Cello Concerto with the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra in Switzerland. The recording is available from “Musikszene Schweiz”. He recorded widely for Claves, Ars Musici (Harmonia Mundi), Warner Music Korea and Brillant Classics. He released a CD of the complete works of Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn for cello and piano with Ester Walker, piano, on First Hand Records, London in 2020. In 2019 Joel Marosi joined the Swiss Piano Trio as its new cellist. (www.swisspianotrio.com) Joel Marosi held a professorship at the University of Geneva/Neuchatel for the Chamber Music Department from 2019-2021. Since 2019 Joel Marosi has also served as principal cellist for the Verbier Orchestra Chamber Festival in Verbier and on numerous international tours with the likes of Gabor Takacs, Klaus Mäkelä, Sir Simon Rattle.
