The Underground Youth Orchestra is more than just a youth symphony orchestra. Its aim is to act as a link for a series of educational activities and as a model for the creation of more youth symphony orchestras, gradually building a whole musical network, "The Underground Youth Orchestra Network". Through the UYO Network, the youth symphony orchestras that are established can, over a period of two years, operate independently of the programme and under the responsibility of the individual supporting organisation. In order to achieve this objective, the UYO offers expertise at artistic, educational and economic levels to support the creation of Youth Symphony Orchestras. The programme is a two-year project. After the two-year period, the UYO can keep an advisory role for a further two years. The programme provides direct artistic engagement - due to the existence of the UYO - which is a catalyst for the attractiveness and effectiveness of the project. The newly established orchestra acquires full autonomy in a reasonable period of time, integrating into the existing structures of its institution, and is an asset to the life of the city in which it operates.
The network was launched in the summer of 2017 and is being developed in cooperation with municipalities and institutions throughout Greece.
The "Youth Symphony Orchestra of Halandri" is already operating with great success, the collaboration with the "Kalogeropoulio Foundation" has started and new collaborations will be announced very soon.
