BIO

- Edward Deskur is a Polish Swiss, American French Horn player. He was born to Polish World War II refugees in the United States and educated there.

At the age of 19 and during his studies at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, he was offered a position as a founding member of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in 1979. . He later returned to finish his college degree after which he won a Fulbright scholarship to Belgium study with the French horn virtuoso Francis Orval.

After three years of residency in orchestras in Germany - Duisburg and Bonn he began his 32 year employment at the Zürich Opera. It was here that he started working with Nikolaus Harnoncourtthe Austrian conductor who regularly invited him to play on historical instruments in his orchestra Concentus MusicusThese projects were on a part-time freelance basis while still working full-time in Zurich.

He was soon thereafter invited to play with the Italian baroque Orchestra "Il Giardino Armonico”on a similar freelance basis. He took the earliest possible retirement from the Zürich Opera in 2017. Despite what he calls a “strategic retirement” he still plays with both these historical orchestras and many others as well, such as the Dresden Festival Orchestrawhich he is now involved in a mammoth project performing and recording Wagner’s 4 Ring operasover a 4 year period. In 2026, the final installment, the “Twilight of the Gods” will complete the series.

He has given master classes all over the world, including the Julliard School of Music and many others. He now lives with his family in Warsaw, Poland from where he travels the world to teach and play on both historical and modern horns.
