Violin & Viola Masterclass
- Underground Youth Orchestra, continuing its dynamic educational activity, is organizing a Violin & Viola Masterclass with Simos Papanas,Concertmaster of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra.
The masterclass includes one individual lesson of one hour.

BIO
- Simos Papanas was born in Thessaloniki in 1979. He studied violin, baroque violin, composition, and mathematics. He began his studies at the New Conservatory of Thessaloniki and completed them at Oberlin College and Yale University in the USA. His teachers included Petar Arnaudov, Taras Gabora, and Erick Friedman (violin) Marilyn McDonald (baroque violin), and Christos Samaras (composition).He has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra,Geneva Camerata, Kammerorchester Basel, the Athens State Orchestra, the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, the Athens Camerata, the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) National Symphony Orchestra, the Sofia Philharmonic, the Sofia Soloists, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the Southwest German Philharmonic Orchestra, the Salzburg Baroque Orchestra “1756,” the Louisiana Sinfonietta, the American Bach Soloists, and the Philharmonia Moments Musicaux of Taiwan.As a soloist, he has also recorded for Deutche Grammophon, BIS και Centaur. He has participated in major international festivals, including the Verbier,the Sommets Musicaux Gstaad, Bristol Proms, the Pollensa Festival (Mallorca, Spain), the Athens Festival, and the Tokyo Music Festival. His compositions have been performed and recorded in many parts of the world (USA, Russia, Canada, Peru, Iran, Japan, Taiwan, and most European countries), including theatrical festivals featuring music for theatre.
Since 2003, he has served as Permanent Concertmaster of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra and since December 2022, he has been its Artistic Director.
