The Underground Youth Orchestra (UYO) will give a unique concert on Wednesday 29 November at the Athens Concert Hall - Hall \"D. Mitropoulos\" under the direction of the French conductor S\u00e9bastien Rouland. The soloist will be soprano Aphrodite Patoulidou.<\/p>\n

The evening will begin with \"Pavane pour une infante d\u00e9funte\" (The Pavane for a dead infant) one of the most famous works by the French composer Maurice Ravel. Ravel, himself, claimed that he had chosen this title primarily because he liked the sound of the words and secondarily because he could imagine a little Spanish princess dancing a slow Renaissance pavane.<\/p>\n

The baton will be passed to Jean Sibelius' symphonic poem \"Luonnotar\", a work for orchestra and soprano. \"Luonnotar\" is based on Finnish mythology, the words are taken from the mythical epic poem \"Kalevala\", and more specifically from the first part that deals with the creation of the world.<\/p>\n

Finally, we will hear L.V. Beethoven's 6th symphony, also known as the \"Pastoral\". Beethoven was a lover of nature, often leaving Vienna to work in the countryside. His first notes for the Pastoral were found in 1802. It was composed at the same time as one of his best-known and most tempestuous symphonies, the Fifth. Both were performed on the same day, at the Vienna Theatre, on 22 December 1808.<\/p>\n

Who is the conductor S\u00e9bastien Rouland<\/strong><\/h3>\n

S\u00e9bastien Rouland is the General Music Director at the Saarl\u00e4ndisches Staatstheater in Saarbr\u00fccken, Germany. He studied cello, but from an early age he cultivated his passion for conducting. Since 2002 he has conducted opera productions in Paris, Lyon, Strasbourg and Marseille, Vienna, Stuttgart, Wiesbaden, Essen, Berlin, Geneva, Lucerne, St. Gallen and Bergen, Lisbon, Tel Aviv, Mexico, has worked with the world's most iconic orchestras and is today one of the most acclaimed French conductors of his generation.<\/p>\n

Who is the soprano Aphrodite Patoulidou<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Aphrodite Patoulidou, one of the most interesting rising contemporary stars of opera. As a soprano, she has performed in the world's greatest theatres and has interpreted iconic operatic roles. She has also collaborated with conductors such as Kirill Petrenko, Barbara Hannigan, Christopher Moulds, Tito Ceccherini, Manuel Nawri and orchestras such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, SWR and others.<\/p>\n

SHe recently toured singing Mahler's Symphony No. 4 and Vivier's Lonely Child with the London Symphony Orchestra at London's Barbican Hall and in Europe. In the 2023\/24 season she will make her debut with the Cleveland and Munich Philharmonic Orchestras, as well as the German Symphony Orchestra of Berlin.<\/p>\n
